Welcome to Jason Thomas Performing Arts Studios, a dance studio that offers performers of all ages the chance to have fun, meet friends and succeed! From nursery to vocational students, we not only offer the best, but we provide a personal touch too. We welcome new and experienced individuals from Bude, St. Ives, Portreath, Bodmin, Fowey and Wadebridge.

    • ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

    Founder jason
    Our founder, Jason, started dancing at the age of 9 at the Cornwall High School of Dancing in Camborne, run by the charismatic and inspirational Madam Norman. At the age of 12, Jason auditioned successfully for Bush Davies School and The Lagat School of Russian Ballet. After finishing the Lower School at Lagat and appearing with the Northern Ballet Theatre on numerous occasions, he attended London Studio Centre, gaining the position of Head Ballet Boy in his second year. After graduation and becoming a member of Equity, Jason has worked throughout the world. He performed in London's West End, throughout Europe and Asia in Las Vegas-style revue shows, gaining soloist/dance captain and company manager positions. He performed on many cruise lines on inaugural cruises, holding the same positions.

    In 2001 Jason retired from performing and decided to take on a career in teaching. He has opened seven schools in Cornwall and is the artistic director of the Foundation Course in Dance and Musical Theatre. 

    He is now a mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance and choreographer for local holiday camps and pantomimes. Many of his students are now at vocational dance colleges as well as younger students auditioning successfully for the Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst School of Dance, Arts Educational - Tring Park and The Hammond School. He also teaches at Polwhele School in Truro and is on the panel for the UK audition tour for Celebrity Cruises. He also runs Cornwall Casting Agency.

    Our students enter exams yearly with the Royal Academy of Dance, Trinity College of London and the International Dance Teachers Association. They also perform annually at the Regal Theatre in Redruth and at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London. To become part of this exciting family, get in touch!

    Steph Small (AIDTA)

    Steph grew up the UK, Germany and Cypress. In 2010, Steph graduated with a Ba(Hons) degree in Coach and Physical Education, Marjon University specialising in Physiology, Anatomy, Biomechanics and Sport Psychology.

    After training in Ballet, Modern and Tap, Steph went on to train as a dance teacher. Steph teaches Ballet, Tap, Theatre craft, Modern and Lyrical dance. In 2018 Steph qualified as a teacher with the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). Steph manages JTPAS in Bude and prepares students for examinations, festivals, performances locally and nationally.

    Ryan Ashton

    Jeniffer Basset (AIDTA)
    Ryan is a passionate street dance teacher and coach with over 10 years of experience in the industry. Ryan has taught all styles under the banner of street day, Ryan specialises in hip hop, popping and krump to students of all ages and levels. Ryan had the privilege of being mentored by Amy Avery (Founder, Creator, and owner of Streetz Dance Company). Over the years, Ryan also had the pleasure of coaching, mentoring, and dancing alongside with South-West, British and World champions. Ryan has also help choreograph routines for various competitions and performances with Streetz Dance Company all over the UK. When Ryan is not teaching, you can find him attending dance workshops online and working on his own choreography. Ryan truly believes that street dance has the power to bring people together and create positive change in the world, and he’s honoured to be a part of that movement.

    The JTPA studio in Bude will be running junior and student classes in ballet, including pointe work (Royal Academy of Dance), street dance solos and street dance teams, free style, tap, theatre craft, modern (International Dance Teachers Association) as well as adult classes in yoga, pilates, tap, ballet and salsa.

    The students will have the opportunity to enter dance festivals and competitions, locally and nationally. They will also have the opportunity to perform at the iconic Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, Hall for Cornwall and at various venues across the South West.
